Solar Energy Innovation

Posted in August 5th, 2008
by Menopausal Mick in Environmental Awareness

Recently, our little electric co-op experienced a power outage that lasted several hours on one of the hottest days in anyone’s memory. It made us stop our various pursuits of gardening, unpacking, mowing and the like. We moved alternative energy to the top of our to-do list.
Don began designing our solar powered system [...]

Nuclear for Knuckleheads

Posted in June 4th, 2008
by LlamaCorey in Corey's Corner, Political Rantings

This is a direct quote from the Nuclear Energy for Texans website.
Nuclear Energy for Texans is a coalition dedicated to educating Texans about the benefits of nuclear energy as a clean, safe, reliable alternative to meet the increasing energy needs of the state.
I’m almost positive that there was a typo in that statement… I’m fairly [...]

While visiting Harmon on Earth, I discovered an excellent post concerning the nuclear waste dump site scheduled for Texas. He not only reported the coming environmental disaster, he reported on possible contamination to the Ogallala Aquifer.

Living in a Commune

Posted in May 25th, 2008
by Menopausal Mick in Alternate Lifestyles, Environmental Awareness

If you are my age or older (I have guitars older than probably most of the people reading this AND jeans of similar age, although my arse can’t still squeeze into the jeans) then you may remember the “back to nature” movement of the sixties. Usually, these communal living arrangements were comprised of young [...]

Radiated Zombie Texans

Posted in May 22nd, 2008
by Menopausal Mick in Environmental Awareness, Political Rantings, The Movement

Reports today of a mob attacking the nuclear dumpsite in North Texas Panhandle have been dismissed as rumors coming from heat stroke victims with delusional hallucinations. The attacking mob was described as consisting of rag-tag green glowing people with rotting limbs and shuffling footsteps. Radiated Zombie Texans is a myth.

Water, Water Everywhere… How do I get it?

Posted in May 2nd, 2008
by Froggie in Don's Dungeon, Environmental Awareness

How do I get the water I need?
Once we have a source for our water needs, the problem to be solved is: How do we get the water to where we need it. In most cases we’ll need to pump the water from its source to a storage facility or a distribution facility to [...]

The Diaper White House… Part 2

Posted in May 2nd, 2008

So when his Chimpness signed H.R. 6, the so-called Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, who were the winners and losers? When you peel away the layers of crap and political garbage it appears that the big winner is…. (insert drum roll here)

Alternative Energy and Political Activism

Posted in April 28th, 2008
by Froggie in Don's Dungeon, Environmental Awareness, Political Rantings, The Movement

You know…
“We the People” need to do more than sit on our butts and let “government” and “corporations” tell us what is good for us or to “shut down” any research of innovations that could take us off of our dependence on foreign oil.

Batteries Not Included?

Posted in April 27th, 2008
by Froggie in Don's Dungeon, Environmental Awareness

“Off-the-Grid” has a nice ring to it. There are numerous ways to achieve that goal. However, each energy producing system/method has its benefits and detractions. One of the most glaring problems is that energy is not being produced when the source for that energy is not available.

Quick way to have alternative energy/solar power cheap and mainstream capable:

Now for the fun stuff!

Posted in April 11th, 2008
by Menopausal Mick in Critter Features, Environmental Awareness

Alternative energy as a national pursuit is as easy as we let it be. The only reason any sane person is hesitant to get on with it (other than the obvious people with financial reason to keep oil use alive) is fear of change.

Water… I need water!

Posted in April 11th, 2008
by Froggie in Don's Dungeon, Environmental Awareness

Water…
It is the basic need that has to be provided for any prospect of living “Off-the-Grid”. Without water, we can’t raise crops, livestock, or ourselves. Once a place has been set to be our “homestead”, two things must first be accomplished. One is to locate a source for water [...]

Living “Off-the-Grid”

Posted in April 5th, 2008
by Froggie in Don's Dungeon, Environmental Awareness

Living “Off-the-Grid” is one of the main goals our family has toward becoming a self-sufficient, self-supporting “farm and ranch”. Along with growing organic vegetables, hormone-free livestock, and clean fish, we plan to be able to provide our own energy production to be able to sustain those operations without requiring commercial/state provided power.

Adolf Hitler

“Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised.”

George W. Bush

“Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction.”

Eloquent Thunder

“Today, I am an inquisitor. And hyperbole would not be fictional and would not overstate the solemnness that I feel right now. My faith in the Constitution is whole, it is complete, it is total. And I am not going to sit here and be an idle spectator to the diminution, the subversion, the destruction of the Constitution.”

Barbara Jordan

From a review of the book, Barbara Jordan: Speaking the Truth with Eloquent Thunder.

...the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.
